In addition to Great Bear Campground, the Hagerman family operates a sugar bush in close proximity. While camping, tour the maple groves, visit the Bear's Den Antiques and see actual maple processing equipment. Campground guests enjoy strolling through the maple groves. During the summer maple products are available for sale in the campground office as well as at the museum gift store at Kings Landing Historical Settlement  In the spring of the year Great Bear Sugarbush is a great place for groups to learn about the history of maple sugaring in this area and how the sap is collected and processed. In addition to the modern processing equipment, examples of antique tools and machinery are on display in the Bear's Den. Mel Hagerman has p roduced a document entitled "The Magic of Maple" which can be used to assist teachers as a follow-up to a field trip to Great Bear Sugar Bush. Great Bear Sugar Bush will fill any type of bottle you like. Containers can be specially ordered with advance notice, for example for small souvenir bottles for wedding guests, or for gift baskets.
